Lights Out for global warming

Lights out everyone on the 1st February, 2007 throughout the world!

USA AND CANADA - HIT YOUR LIGHTS 6.55PM YOUR LOCAL TIME.

The "Alliance pour la Planète" (a national grouping of environmental associations) appeals to all citizens to give the planet 5 minutes respite:

Everybody to extinguish all their lights and illuminations and turn off equipment on stand-by on the 1st February 2007 from 18h55 until 19h00. (GMT)

The purpose is not just to save electricity for 5 minutes that day, but to draw the attention of citizens, the media and the authorities to the waste of energy and the need to initiate action! 5 minutes respite for the planet: that's not long, it costs nothing and will show our politicians that climate change is something which should figure prominently in political debates.

Why the 1st February? Because that is the day on which the latest report of the United Nations Panel of Experts is to be released in Paris.

Although this event is scheduled to take place in France, we should not miss this opportunity of drawing attention to the global climatic situation.

If we all participate our actions will have great public and political resonance, at an important moment in our political life.!

Please make this appeal as widely known as possible in your own circles and networks ! please also publish it on your websites and in your newsletters.

So dont just stop after this little event but carry on everyday being aware of the little things that you can do to save our world.

lowdown on lowbrow

Art Exhibit and Release Party for The LOWDOWN ON LOWBROW: Art Up from the Underground, a documentary by Marcus Rogers with Artwork and Prints by Robt. Williams, The Pizz, SHAG, Anthony Ausgang, Lisa Petrucci, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, NIAGARA, I,Braineater, 12 Midnite, Dirty Donny, and The PopTarts

Opening Friday January 26 at 7pm
Runs Jan 23-Feb 4
at the JEM Gallery-225 E. Broadway ,Vancouver BC
www.myspace.com/thejemgallery

The "Lowdown On Lowbrow" is a 1-hour art documentary produced by Fountain Productions chronicling the evolution of the "lowbrow" genre and style including the relatively recent emergence of female artists at the
forefront of the movement.

As pop culture, surf, music, films and the mechanized culture of the hotrod begins to permeate the mass subconscious, so does the popularity and accessibility of "Pop" or "Lowbrow" style artwork. Bold, sexy, vibrant, and bright, much of the work of the "Lowbrow" artists juxtaposes the unlikely yet familiar elements of popular culture together in startling new compositions.

As the fine art world shuffles stuffily along, with it academic intellectual justifications as to why a piece of work is or is not "art", Lowbrow comes along with it's bold images, color, and sex and grabs its fans in a visceral grip. Now in its 3rd decade, a new generation of Lowbrow artists is emerging from behind the flame jobs and tiki heads.

Working in a wide variety of styles, and largely resentful of being classified at all, Lowbrow artists are creating work in the most innovative ways possible and fighting to claim their rightful place in the history of western art.

The "LOWDOWN on LOWBROW" features interviews with artists Robt. Williams, The Pizz, SHAG, Anthony Ausgang, Isabel Samaras, Lisa Petrucci, Dirty Donny, I,Braineater (aka Jim Cummins), 12 Midnite, The PopTarts (Nicole Steen & Vicki M), Sunny Buick, and curators/gallerists Doug Nason (Copro Nason), Billy Shire(La Luz de Jesus,Billy Shire Fine Arts), Justin Giarla (Shooting Gallery,9mm Books ), Jay Nailor (M Modern Gallery), author Sherri Cullison, publisher Ron Turner, editors Annie Tucker(Juxtapoz), and Mike Lavella (Gearhead), and artwork by artists listed previously as well as Mark Ryden, NIAGARA, Tim Biskup, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, Von Dutch, Robert Crumb, Rick Griffin, Alan Forbes, Gary Panter, COOP, Jim Phillips, Dave Cooper, Kalynn Campbell, Suzanne Williams, David Ostrem, ManWoman, Johnny Crap, Pilar Alvarez, Holly Ruth Anderson, Colin Upton, Makato, Sandow Birk, Bob Masse, Stanley Mouse, Von Franco, Rot N Hell and more!

Holy F*CK - The Marine Club is KAPUT!

This place was one of the coolest places in the country, let alone Vancouver. Nothing is sacred. I wasn't a regular, but I loved that place. Sad, It's not just another live venue lost, it's possibly the last cool venue that supported bands & a community that have little or no place to go now. Crappy.
The Marine Club was bolted shut and declared SOLD without a fucking word to the staff; promoters and/or patrons.
Another fine venue and fun hangout closed.
I thought Vancouver was working on putting the fun back into the city...not taking more of it way. Just confirms for me more and more that Vancouver really does live up to its title "No fun city."

bustedtees.com

Just came across this great t-shirt company. thought this t-shirt was appropriate after eating at Memphis Blues last night and us talking about how we had hung with a vegetarian too long and that was why we couldn't finish the platter of meat. Frankly I'm not sure how two could.

CHUNDER

so the word chunder has come up (well not literally) in conversation over the past week, my friend who shall remain nameless at this point had a great story. today I felt suddenly inspired to look for definitions online. they range from what you would expect to totally strange.

ONE
Chunder means to be sick, it originates from old seafareing days when sailers would get seasick and stick their head out of the porthole in their cabin. As they did this they would shout "Watch Under" to warn people in lower cabins of the forthcoming puke. Over the years this has evolved in Chunder.

TWO
vomitus horrendous

THREE
Vomit; generally chunky in nature.

FOUR
The Diarrhea smelling nastiness that is a container of food left in the fridge that is there for 2 months, that becomes so nasty, and fetid that you almost projectile vomit all over your self and your surroundings when you lift the lid and break the seal of the mold laden nastiness contained within.

FIVE
Chunder is a variation on fermunda cheese. Pretty much anything that is seriously nasty.

SIX
When you throw up a little in your mouth and then swallow it.

Ok that's enough for now, this word amuses me to no end right now. CHUNDERSTRUCK!
